When the official announcement came that Short North Stage would be taking over the historic Garden Theatre in Columbus’ Short North District, I couldn’t help but feel happiness and hope for the area. Fringe is just a few doors away. Although Fringe is a pop up shop in the interim it is our full intent to become a full time retro boutique. Short North Stage announced they would renovate and completely lease the space. So when they asked for donations for this initiative I couldn’t stand by with my hands in my pockets. Instead I donated to their Kickstarter campaign for their Inaugural Follies show. You can too!

This year we had the pleasure in checking out the local graffiti and artistic scene at the 2011 Urban Scrawl at 400 w Rich Street. What an amazing blast. We were able to sell our new Casio Watches and check out the local food truck scene. Thanks Chris Sherman and team. We had an amazing time.

What a rush the Summer Flea was this year. I vividly remember walking past the event last year and noticing all the eager shoppers and how fun and energetic the event was. Well last year I was an onlooker, working a canvassing job and wished “one day I could participate in something this amazing”. Well this year my friend Steve and I did it, and although it was scorching we had an amazing time. Thanks to the organizers and supporters!

We're in there somewhere!

Sometime ago I wrote about the Columbus Idea Foundry and the great things they provide to creatives, artisans, and entrepreneurs. I am convinced of the commitment they stand for and therefore we at Fringe Outfitters have donated $40.00 so that Columbus Underground can match up to $2,000 in the Idea Foundry’s campaign through Kickstarter.com.

Today I attended the grand opening of Columbus Commons park in Downtown Columbus. What a sight to behold. The well manicured lawns, the carefully curated flowers and plants from Franklin Park Conservatory and the carousal will be a great attraction for the renaissance of Downtown Columbus. Enough of me rambling. Check out the photos.

What I’m most excited about in regard to Columbus Commons is the proposed apartments and condos that are to line the street. This development isn’t concrete but whats proposed allows density and retail to prop up and create a more vibrant Downtown.

I would love to see retail shops and boutiques up and down this stretch of High st. Once residential density demands it, retailers could definitely benefit from a development such as this.
